Our Culture

At Kennedy Dance Theatre, the culture is warm, welcoming, and deeply rooted in tradition. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves while feeling supported by teachers, peers, and families who celebrate their growth. The studio blends professionalism with a sense of belonging, creating an environment where dancers can take pride in their hard work, creativity, and the friendships they build along the way.

Grounded in Christian values, we’re committed to providing a supportive and encouraging space where students can grow in confidence, skill, and character. Every creative choice—from choreography to costume—reflects our dedication to integrity, positivity, and excellence in both dance and life.

COMMUNITY. COMMITMENT. COMPASSION.

Community

We believe in connection that extends beyond the studio—building lasting relationships among dancers, families, and the wider community through shared passion and purpose.

Commitment

We are devoted to excellence, upholding our responsibility as educators to inspire, guide, and challenge each student while encouraging them to show the same dedication and perseverance in their own growth.

Compassion

We lead with kindness—teaching dancers to support one another, show respect, and embody grace on and off the stage.

Our Studio

Kennedy Dance Theatre (‘KDT’) opened up as a performing arts studio in 1973 in Pasadena, TX on a $200 investment. Director and Founder Mary Lee Kennedy wanted to establish a studio that could offer a comprehensive artistic experience with dance, musical theatre, performing arts classes and more.

There are more than 100 classes offered each week in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, aerial fabric, musical theatre and fitness for ages 2 through adult.

KDT is also dedicated to giving back to the community by performing for local events and organizations free of charge.  Our Special Needs Program offers free dance classes to students with down syndrome, autism, and other developmental disabilities. Teachers and student assistants involved volunteer their time each week to help these students improve their motor skills, confidence, and socialization while having fun. Additionally, KDT offers a scholarship fund to help students pursue their dreams in dance who otherwise could not afford instruction.  Additionally, through its sister program Manners Pro, KDT offers etiquette consulting services for ages 4 – adult.  You can find out more at Manners Pro at www.mannerspro.com

We have been featured on ABC 13 News, Fox 26 News, Great Day Houston, the Houston Chronicle, Change Magazine, Bay Area Houston Magazine and many more because of our dedication to dance, art, and the community.

I am so glad we changed studios from a different local studio. I wanted to put my daughter in a place that taught correct technique, which KDT does… As a new dance parent, at our very first class, the other moms were so kind about explaining how to do things at KDT, which was unlike what we encountered at a previous studio, which had the catty “dance mom” stereotype. Everyone here has been genuine and welcoming and truly reflects the Christian atmosphere the studio is based on… We are SO GLAD we came to KDT!
